Start without choosing

Is Turkey worse?

Not as a rule. Turkey has very well-equipped clinics and also dubious providers. The best-known problem is clinics where the doctor hardly does the key steps.

This is rarer in Germany, but there is no specialist title for hair transplantation there either. Terms like “hair surgeon” are not protected.

So the most important question is the same in both countries: who does the key steps, and how much experience does that doctor have?

When Turkey is a good fit

  • Price matters a lot to you.
  • You can travel for a few days and recover calmly afterwards.
  • Aftercare by photo and message is fine for you.
  • The clinic says clearly who operates and what the package includes.

When Germany is the better fit

  • You want your check-ups in person at the same practice.
  • You have a medical condition or take medication that needs closer medical supervision.
  • Your case is more complex, such as a repair after an earlier transplant.
  • You would rather not travel soon after the procedure.

What to add to the price

The price in the offer is not everything you pay. Put offers side by side only once you have added this:

  • Flights and days off for an offer from Turkey
  • Nights not in the package, such as a buffer day before the flight home
  • Medication and care products, if not included
  • Check-ups in the months after: travel to the practice, or a doctor at home if something comes up

At Trichio every cost estimate states what is included. All in the same format, so you do not have to work out what is missing.

What about Austria or Switzerland?

We have no guide values of our own for Austria and Switzerland. So we give no figures here.

The trade-off against Turkey is similar to Germany, though: short journeys, your language, check-ups on site, but a higher price. Ask there for a fixed price for your number of grafts.

In the questionnaire you can choose several regions, such as Turkey and Switzerland. Then you see the offers side by side in the same format.

Calculated from an average of €1.07 (Turkey) and €2.93 (Germany) per graft, Medihair cost study, February 2025. Turkey without flight and hotel.

This guide explains things in general and does not replace medical advice. Whether and how a treatment suits you is something to clarify with a doctor or the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

How much cheaper is a hair transplant in Turkey?

According to our guide values, a graft costs about €1.07 on average there and about €2.93 in Germany. For 2,500 to 3,500 grafts that is about €2,700 to €3,700 against €7,300 to €10,300. The Turkey value excludes flights and hotel.

Are results better in Germany?

There is no general answer. The result depends on the doctor, the team and your donor area, not on the country. In both countries, ask who operates and which steps they do themselves.

Is Turkey still worth it once I add flights and hotel?

Often yes, because the price gap is large. But add everything: flights, days off and what the package leaves out. With real offers in hand you can see it for your case.

Can I compare offers from both countries?

Yes. In the Trichio questionnaire you choose several regions. You get up to three cost estimates in the same format. Only the clinic you choose gets your contact details.

Does health insurance pay if I stay in Germany?

For hereditary hair loss usually not, wherever you are treated. There can be exceptions for medical causes, such as after an accident. Clarify this with your insurer in writing beforehand.
