How we calculate

Every number on Trichio has a path. Here it is: where the graft ranges come from, how they turn into a price and what that price leaves out.

From Norwood stage to graft range

The Norwood scale sorts male hair loss into seven stages. It describes which area is bald. It does not say how many grafts that area needs.

A graft is a follicular unit: a natural group of usually one to three hairs that grow out of the skin together. The larger the bald area, the more units it takes to look dense.

There is no study with fixed graft counts per Norwood stage. Our ranges are therefore planning values. They reflect what clinics usually plan for the typical pattern of a stage. Hairline and crown are parts of that plan, not a second opinion.

On the homepage and in the questionnaire

There we combine the stages into three rows to keep the table short. Each row uses the overall plan of the higher stage:

  • Norwood 2–3: 1,500–2,500 grafts
  • Norwood 4: 2,500–3,500 grafts
  • Norwood 5–6: 3,500–4,500+ grafts

From grafts to price

We multiply the number of grafts by an average price per graft and round to €100. That's all there is to it.

Grafts × avg. price per graft = guide value

  • Turkey€1.07per graft

    Example: 2,000 × €1.07 ≈ €2,100

  • Germany€2.93per graft

    Example: 2,000 × €2.93 ≈ €5,900

Both values come from the Medihair cost study, updated in February 2025.

What you should know about the source

  • Medihair is a commercial portal, not an independent body. We found no recent independent survey.
  • Many clinics in Turkey charge a package price rather than per graft. For large procedures our estimate there tends to be too high.
  • When better data exists, we will swap the values and change the date above.

What the numbers don't cover

A guide value is not an offer. These points are left out on purpose, because they depend on you and the clinic:

Flights and hotel

The Turkey values include no travel. The study roughly adds about €900 for flights, hotel and meals.

Your donor area

How many grafts can be taken from the back of the head differs for everyone. A small donor area can cap the number, especially from Norwood 6.

Hair and goal

Hair thickness, colour, curl and the density you want all shift the plan. Two people at the same stage often need different amounts.

What comes before and after

Consultation, medication, aftercare and a possible second session are not included.

None of these numbers is a medical finding. Whether and how much to transplant is something a doctor decides with you.
